In less than 12 hours Mike and I will be on a plane, sans kids, for a wonderful weekend getaway. I can't tell you how excited I am. A few years ago my mom, Matthew (who was 6 months old) and I went to SanAntonio for a few days. I can't for the life of me remember why, it seems like an odd choice, but nonethless we went…and we loved it. I've always thought it was somewhere that Mike would really enjoy as well.
Fast forward to this year – my mom and dad decided to go for a weekend and they had a great time too. I was talking to my mom on the phone shortly after that and she was telling me what a fabulous time they had. I lamented about how much I'd love to go down with Mike sometime but with kids it's so hard to get away for even a few hours much less a few days.
So then that's when she said the magic words…"You should really go. Go ahead and book it. Pick a weekend. How about April? I'll take the days off and come down". I think there might have been more but I was too busy clicking on Expedia while she was talking
Fast forward to now. We're going to SanAntonio tomorrow! For two whole nights! We wanted to maximize the time so we're leaving at 7 a.m. (Yikes, I should really be in bed) and will return Sunday evening. I'm so thankful that my mom is not only willing to watch our kids, but encourages it and helps me plan. Thanks Mom!!!
I'm so excited to have countless hours alone with Mike. Our list of priorities includes:
- Sleep
- More sleep
- Meals where we actually read the menu
- Meals where we eat our food hot
- Meals at a place that kids aren't encouraged
- Prickly pear margartas
- A cruise on the Riverwalk
- Tableside guacamole at Boudros
- A trip to the Alamo
- —Where we actually READ the information
- Sleep
Have you had the opportunity to spend an overnight without kids? Where have you gone? Or where would you like to go?
